Foodtruck Season

Ber months are finally here so it could only mean one thing – winter is coming. And on that note, there’s no better thing to do in cooler months than to eat al fresco, engage in outdoor activities and be in a festive mood, which you can do all at the same time at foodtruck events. Here in the UAE, you might wonder how would a dry and hot country from the middle east ever get away with hosting such gatherings? But can you believe we have foodtrucks all throughout the year? Oh yes we do.

Here’s my own 2017 Best of Foodtruck Season:

The Last Exit

My friends and I decided to see and check out The Last Exit for ourselves last January as we have heard good feedback from a lot of people. It’s a street food truck park located in Jebel Ali (Route E11) that offers a wide range of quick bites for people on the go, or for those who are willing to spend a few more hours. They have outdoor and indoor seating areas to accommodate everybody’s needs. We went on a cold winter night and it helped that I ordered a cup of brownie hot chocolate from The Brass. For sure there were plenty of food trucks to choose from and I happen to fancy multicolored burgers so I went for Pop Sliders and had two rainbow chicken sliders all to myself. I have to say that my favorite would have to be Kent’s order – Matcha Green Tea Latte from The Brass as well. The interiors screamed vintage which I really love! Even the retro diner concept is truly on point!

Love Food Festival

February rolled in and the cool winter breeze was still upon us so that meant more foodtruckin’ gigs ahead. The Love Food Festival was back in Al Ain last February 9-11, which was a fusion of international street food from the US, UK, Singapore and of course, locally grown foodtruck brands here in the UAE. I got to sample the British crew’s The Cheesetruck specialty grilled cheese sandwich (mouthwatering, yes) and Singaporean Chef Bjorn Shen’s Artichoke Milo Godzilla – which were all A-plus for me. The rest of the gang tried a variety of gourmet street food from the other trucks – sushi, beef samplers, seafood, the works. A few hours in and a little walking around later, I found myself drawn to the Yumtingz foodtruck and I knew I had to try their parmesan and truffle fries and boy, they were the bomb! We just walked around some more, talked for some time while checking out the rest of the foodtruck scene and to cap the night off, we had Raw Coffee Company’s signature hot chocolate.

Street Feast Abu Dhabi

Back in December, The Street Feast was held in Hazza Bin Zayed stadium and as foodtruck enthusiasts, we were the first in line. It turned out to be a small roundup of the usuals but the wooden tables and benches added to the rustic flavor of the event. We didn’t have enough to choose from so I went for Chick & Co.’s chicken in a cone and partnered it with Raw’s hot chocolate to warm ourselves up. For dessert, I sampled Zo’s Kitchen’s brownie doughnut balls which were perfect as a sweet ending to an already wonderful night.

Now that winter’s coming, I really hope that we get to go to more foodtruck affairs this year. I’m definitely looking forward to it already.

See y’all later,
